Private funding

Large charitable trusts or funds like the Rowentree or Gulbenkian Foundations often support small scale arts projects. There a number of reason why this kind of funding is suitable

  • They are more likely to offer smaller amounts of funding
  • They often have rolling closing dates and so can deal with applications quickly.
  • They may be open to original ways of working.

The Association of Charitable Foundations is based in UK and has a list of trusts in its directory. www.acf.org.uk. Many Trusts do see the Republic as part of their funding area.

Another source of information is the Irish Funding Handbook published by CREATE in association with Clann Credo (Social Investment Fund), The Wheel, and with financial support from the Citizens Information Board.  It covers grants, awards and other supports for voluntary non-profit and social organisations.  See www.create-ireland.ie.

Both the IRELAND FUND and the AIB BETTER IRELAND AWARDS are examples of foundations based in Ireland. Their websites are
